About Caravan

Project Background

Discovering the Need: "In 2010, a transformative journey to Jammu & Kashmir unveiled the stark realities faced by local widows and orphans through first hand encounters. Amidst the backdrop of political instability and geographical remoteness, these individuals live in profound poverty, deprived of basic resources and opportunities for a better life. This discovery was the catalyst for action."

Foundation of Hope: "Responding to this urgent need, Caravan was established in May 2010, under the auspices of the Sheikhul-Hind Educational Charitable Trust (reg.5931) in New Delhi, India. Our mission: to empower widows with autonomy and provide orphans with the cornerstone of success—quality education."

A Family of Support: "Believing firmly in the power of emotional support to forge strong, resilient characters, Caravan has developed a comprehensive support network. This ensures that not only do widows find solace and strength, but orphans too are enveloped in care and guidance, all within the comfort of their own communities and homes."

Empowerment Through Engagement: "Caravan adopts a unique, non-institutional approach to aid, delivering financial support, education, and personal development directly to the beneficiaries' doorsteps. This model fosters a sense of belonging, uses existing community infrastructure effectively, and maintains the vital connection with extended families and communities."

Sustainable Impact: "Our model is not just effective; it's sustainable and scalable, delivering significant progress and impact on a modest budget. This approach ensures that every penny is spent wisely, with minimal infrastructure costs and maximum benefits to those we serve. Currently, Caravan stands alone in its dedicated mission to uplift both widows and orphans in such a holistic manner."
